Action Skills Courses for Deaf People - Basic IT, Job Skills, Literacy & Numeracy

Action
Deafness is excited to announce it has sourced funding to run a 40 week
part-time course specifically for Deaf people to start running in September
2008. The course will include an introduction to literacy, numeracy, basic IT
skills and developing skills on how to look for work. This course will be
held every Friday for two hours at
BBC Radio,
9 St Nicholas Place, Leicester. A Deaf tutor will teach the course. More

local newspaper, Leicester Mercury, interviewed 3 members of the deaf community,
Frank Sly & his daughter Karen, and Jackie Perkins. The interview

'Race for Life' Reports!
Jackie
Perkins, Joanna Downes and Di Chawner have done their 'Race For Life' and raised
over £300 in total!
They have submitted reports of their races, read all about it on

Deaffest 2008 (Deaf Film Festival) will be held on Fri 28th – Sun 30th Nov at
Light House Media Centre, Wolverhampton. The weekend of festivities will include
screenings of films produced by UK Some people are very keen to see a reunion for ex pupils
who attended at the Stoneleigh School for the Deaf in Leicester which got closed
in 1980 (?). There are discussions at the moment to set up one in Autumn. For
